about
DEKODER is david palmer, kris avedon, and stig knutsen
Dekoder's work is best described as a journey through the basic elements of emotion, and is better defined as a collective than by any single track or project. It is in this regard that the work holds broad applicability, while still maintaining a delicate balance between highs and lows. Their work drives a point of accomplishment rather than finality, leaving an open invitation for the listener to engage with their sound again and again. Using the latest in computer technology, they delve into sound design and in turn create their own instruments which help define their very unique and eclectic sound.
David Palmer's career is upper tier and expansive. He is the current drummer for Rod Stewart and original member of the 80's super group ABC. He co-wrote the groundbreaking ABC album Lexicon of Love which was produced by legendary Trevor Horn. He worked with award winning composer Ryuichi Sakamoto who won an Oscar, a Grammy and a Golden Globe for his music in The Last Emperor. (Sakamoto has made a career of crossing musical and technological boundaries). From 1988 to 1994, David was a member of the band The The, which was responsible for the albums Infected, Mind-Bomb, and Dusk. Together these albums have sold millions worldwide. For the albums Mind-bomb and Dusk he worked with co-member Johnny Marr, who was a member of The Smiths before The The. In 1990 he collaborated with the supergroup Electronic, which was comprised of New Order's Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr, with the tracks "Feel Every Beat" and "Getting Away With It." Palmer also drummed for the Japanese electronic band Yellow Magic Orchestra on their farewell tour in 1983.
When Kris Avedon and Stig Knutsen met at Rollins College they discovered a shared passion for music. It was not long before they began DJing together at several popular clubs in Florida, and within a few months they became Friday night DJs on Orlando's #1 radio station. Their music began to reach thousands of fans and as their popularity grew, they soon held weekly residencies at Club Icon, Americas largest club, Club La Vela, and Leopard Lounge. Their DJ skills began to land them gigs in Atlanta, the rest of the country, and later South America. After graduating from college, Kris and Stig continued to pursue their love of music at recording art schools in Virginia and Pennsylvania. They received international press after their epic releases of "Spite" and "Flux" on Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto Records, featured in Perfecto presents Sandra Collins, as well as the downtempo tracks "The March" and "Downtown Bubble" on John Digweed's Bedrock Records' Layered Sounds Vol. 2. The worldwide positive reviews described the tracks as a "gentled Philip Glass bred with Jean Michel Jarre, all-consuming ambience and muted percussion that sounds like smoothed down drums from a Genesis track." The duo moved to Los Angeles in 2004 where they expanded their production credits to include film and television.
Within four months of working with David, Kris and Stig found themselves on the radar of several music supervisors. They were hired for the original Showtime Series Sexual Healing. Future works for this dynamic team include Eutechnyx's E-Racer and Carjacker for Playstation 3, as well as many more projects to come.
